Tim Barnes, Prospective MP for the Cities of London and Westminster responds to the Evening Standard’s coverage of Labour's Tax Plans:
"Labour are going to put up tax on everyone. This is especially problematic because there is a lack of transparency over which taxes will be raised and by how much. This morning on LBC, Sir Keir said he would not make a "budget" ahead of the election. This is unhelpful as voters should expect to be told what they are voting for ahead of the election.
"We know there is a vast hole in funding from the public sector. We also know that it will cost thousands of pounds per person. Who will fund all of this? In the end, it will be all of us.
"Taxes have had to be high over the last couple of years to cope with significant factors beyond any manifesto: COVID-19, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and demographic changes that dwarf party policies in recent years.
"But now they are up; Labour intends to keep them high and push them even higher.
"The Conservatives want to lower them as soon as possible, and we have shown our commitment to that by already lowering National Insurance, which is one of the most effective ways to help those who need it most.
"We are delivering on our promises. Labour needs to tell you what their promises are!"
