Tim Barnes shares his reflections on the recent General Election result, where he stood for election for the Conservatives in the Cities of London & Westminster.
"It's a couple of days after the election, and everybody's had a chance to think about the results and to distil what's taking place. I'm out in Soho on another British summer's day, just having a little bit of a chat with people and listening to what they have had to say, good and bad, about the election results.
"I just wanted to take this opportunity to say congratulations to Rachel Blake our new MP. She's going to be representing me in Parliament, along with everybody else who lives in this constituency, and I wish her the very best of luck. I'd also like to say thanks to, Edward Lucas and to all of the other candidates that part in this election, because between us, we managed to have a very civilised and, a very, well ordered campaign with no abuse, none of the negativity that's been associated with so many recent elections. And I really, really am very thankful and grateful to all of them for that.
"I'd like to also thank all of our activists, the volunteers, the representatives, and the staff in the party office, in particular my campaign manager, James Cockram, my chairman, Tom Borwick and everybody else who has played an active part in this campaign.
"We couldn't have done it without you. In the end, it was not a bad result. It was never going to be easy against the national backdrop. And we managed to really pull out ahead of so many with the results, not just in London but nationwide. Thank you very much, everybody, who voted for me, and for everything that we managed to achieve in the last couple of months.
"I'm not going anywhere. this is where I live, and I will continue to campaign and be active in this area. And I hope to see you very soon. Thank you again."
